Secret Garden Men’s Circles
*Circles may have a strong theme as in May or be a simple gathering. In general
these circles help us to grow in the relaxed acceptance of ourselves - as men together,
with women in intimate relating and communication and in our work. The stereotype
of Alpha male is achievement and competition ala business, sport or other worldly
accomplishments. We all bring degrees of this to our personal or spiritual development
practice – wanting to be a better meditator, group participant, listener, lover.
I’ve done a lot of believing in this myself, and I’d be the first to admit I sometimes
feel there is a way I 'could do better’ in these areas.
I’m suggesting (and it’s revolutionary while hardly being new!) that letting go of
the desire to be better or try can happen. That’s the context.
Being and sharing in an environment where you come to realize that all of you is
accepted, enjoyed and appreciated by your fellow men is a powerful way to befriend
everything you are.
*Occasional men’s evening circles 7 30-9 30pm are held in Slad Valley, nr Stroud,
and these sometimes happen without much notice. They are a powerful resource, a safe
space for men to drop into, facilitated by Tim. If interested, please email Joy.
Any upcoming date will be published here. You need to pay in advance, see How to
Book box. The current price is £19 which includes the evening and refreshments.
I don’t know what you men got up to but Ian has come back a different man and I love
him the more for it

Thanks so much - Your thoughtful leadership, teaching by example, generous hosting
and caring poking. I had an amazing day, still trying to take it all in.

A Mythic journey of earth and comradeship
A two night Brecon Beacons men’s adventure
Friday 21st May - Sunday 23rd May 2010
The next men’s gathering* will be held from Friday evening - arriving in the Brecon
Beacons between 6 and 8pm) 21st May and Sunday afternoon 23rd May at about 4pm, when
you’ll be free to leave our home, in Gloucestershire having re-united with the women
on Sunday afternoon in simple ritual. Joy is separately running an retreat for the
women.
The place we’ll meet at has no facilities, just a stream.. Wood fires are allowed,
and it is the ‘base camp’ for a mountain.
The purpose of the weekend is to develop and strengthen our friendship with other
men to empower our own sense of manhood and bring more depth and ease to our ordinary
lives. We will do this through being in nature as a tribe (I use the word tribe
evocatively, but this is not a New Age experience). An essential stage in the journey
is the Return - (6) below
The weekend will involve 7 stages, all important, and in some way a parallel to the
mythic journey each man must make to find himself. The stages are:
- 1 Preparation - before the event but just getting us all there will test important
male qualities in each of us
- 2 Leaving - the comfort of home and traveling in the world
- 3 Arriving - in nature and in a new circle
- 4 The wild journey - involving practical skills, physical endeavor, mutual support,
fun, peace, challenge and insight
- 5 Gathering the gifts – and setting off through the world carrying them
- 6 Homestead – ceremonial meeting, being received by the women, to speak our truth
clearly and to be heard once more by woman
- 7 Living - our gifts in daily life
Joining instructions and more details for the all important preparation will be sent
once booking has been confirmed
I’d be happy to talk to any men considering attending if they need to discuss anything
– please write to me c/o Joy if so, and we’ll set up a phone call .
